The Ideas and 1:12 announce the upcoming release of their new self-titled album, The Ideas, available on 180g black vinyl, Bandcamp, and streaming platforms from Friday 24th April
Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, The Ideas are a two-piece noise blues band delivering groovy, heavy riffs over swampy 12-bar blues. Loud, energetic, and unapologetically raw, drawing from the grit of garage rock and the soul of blues, their sound is both primal and electrifying — a sonic punch that hits hard and leaves a mark. Whether on stage or on record, The Ideas create a chaotic, fuzz-drenched experience that turns every performance into a full-body assault of rhythm and noise.
Recorded at Earwig Studios and engineered by Darren McShane, the release preserves the grit, weight, and immediacy that define The Ideas sound. The band worked to capture the feeling of their live performances — chaotic, heavy, and deeply rooted in blues tradition — while pushing into a more aggressive sonic space. Pressed to vinyl with the support of 1:12 Records, the release brings their raw energy to a wider audience.
“We wanted this album to sound raw and to be captured live. No click track, no quantising, and barely any overdubbing. We had a rule - only three takes for each song and we pick what felt best. Those are the live one-take songs you will be hearing on this album.”

"Torn & tattered fuzz blues Auckland duo mine a heavy boogie. On this, their debut 12 track LP they are on a quest to nail down that ultimate broken up fuzz tone & pair it with the complimentary thump busy-ness. Inject accentuated dancing vocals to the rhythms laid down. Descending scale dive bomb riffs. Blues turn-arounds, bar room drum shuffles. Equal parts Sabbath & Steve Marriott’s Humble Pie. Slabs of the loose & early rawness famed recent two pieces the Black Keys & White Stripes launched their careers with. Proto-punk early 70s rock heft, slow burn stoner riff punch. The hook of them riffs, the 20th century blues men shared w/the world, the John Lee Hooker drone, the Chuck Berry locomotion, the Lightnin’ Hopkins fleet pickin’, the Howlin’ Wolf howl, the RL Burnside & Hound Dog Taylor boogie, all volume cranked & hot wired, what those hundreds of 1970s Brit boys did to the blues. Worked so well, it hath become the blueprint for the upcoming guitar slingers of the 21st century to still refer to & riff from.
Count THE IDEAS amongst those aficionados. The undeniable addiction of cranked guitars thru old skool vintage amplification. Pairing weaving fuzz fried thumping riffs to backbeat & front boom, brass shimmer & skin smack. High toned edgy vox running with the devil’s roadhouse blues. Former kids, now young men, left unattended to shake’n’bake the heavy rock into their own personal marinated version. Herein those ideas in tangible form, that THE IDEAS brudders hath brewed & stewed in their own individual manner." - A. Tolley
